The Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma is always on the lookout for volunteers to help fight childhood hunger.

Some volunteers have personal stories of how the food has helped children they know. Many who don't know where their next meal is coming from.

The Backpack Program provides a backpack of kid-friendly food for food-insecure elementary students every Friday of the school year.

In Fiscal Year 2016, the Food Bank provided more than 160,000 backpacks in 124 schools to more than 5,000 students in Tulsa County.

The School Pantry Program alleviates child hunger by providing food to low-income high school and middle school students and their families at school.

In Fiscal Year 2016, the first full year of the program, the Food Bank provided the equivalent of more than 23,000 meals in 13 schools.

CFBEO employees said shifts were still available September 1, 2016, at 1 p.m – 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.

The volunteer center of Tulsa is near Peoria Avenue and Pine Street in the Lansing business district.
