Two Rounds Of Storms Possible In Eastern Oklahoma Friday

Hi friends. Keep the rain gear handy today and tonight, as rain and thunderstorm activity will be likely today and possibly for part of the area tonight.

Pockets of moderate to heavy rainfall will be a possibility as the storm system moves across the state. One or two strong to severe storms will be possible but widespread severe storms are unlikely.  Temperatures this morning will start in the upper 60s and lower 70s and may remain in the upper 70s or lower 80 across Northern Oklahoma with readings into the mid or upper 80s across the southern third of the state.

Temperatures this weekend will start in the mid-to-upper 60s for morning lows and finishes with daytime highs in the mid-80s. A few additional showers and storms will remain possible early Saturday morning through mid-day before activity migrates into the southern sections of Oklahoma.   A fast-moving disturbance should provide a few showers or storms Sunday, but the coverage is expected to remain low.

Storms that developed last night across part of Kansas and Nebraska are currently located in northern Kansas this morning.  Additional storms that developed into our West last night are also moving slowly east this morning but mostly across the northern areas of North Texas.   

We may have two rounds of showers and thunderstorms today across Eastern Oklahoma. The first opportunity is mid-morning into mid-afternoon, and possibly one more round late tonight through Saturday morning. The timing may change but will continue to mention at least a chance for some activity for part of the Friday Night Football games.  

Saturday morning showers and storms may be ongoing as you're up early, but thunderstorms should migrate southward by mid-morning into the early afternoon. This means most of Saturday afternoon and Saturday evening activities across the northern and central part of the state should be rain free. 

The EURO and NAM models continue to bring a fast-moving upper-level disturbance across Northern Oklahoma Sunday afternoon and evening. This should produce a few spotty showers or storms that would exit Eastern Oklahoma late Sunday night or early Monday morning. A mid-level ridge of high pressure is expected to develop and strengthen across the Southern Plains Monday through Wednesday.   

This means daytime highs early next week should be into the lower 90s along with muggy conditions through the period.  The data also suggest a weak cold front may enter Northern Oklahoma briefly Wednesday morning but will quickly move north.  Any showers or storms early next week will more than likely be highly isolated and mostly across extreme eastern OK and western Arkansas.
