The Tulsa County Sheriff's Office released documents from the time when Tulsa Police Officer Betty Shelby served as a deputy.

Shelby shot and killed Terence Crutcher, 40, on Friday, September 16, 2016. The shooting is under investigation.

TCSO released the documents in response to media inquiries about the answers Shelby provided to questions on her job application with the office. One of the questions was about drug use and another was about protective orders.

Deputy Justin Green, public information officer for TCSO, said the office had no record of any disciplinary actions taken against Shelby during her employment there.

He released a copy of the single use of force report that the office located. She reported she and other deputies had pulled their guns on a man who was trying to hide as deputies served felony warrants for his arrest in 2010.

The other document Green released is a letter from Shelby explaining her answers to the questions on the job application about drug use and protective orders.

In the letter she said when she was 18, she tried marijuana on two separate occasions at social gatherings. She said she never used or experimented with any other illegal drugs before or since.

She also wrote that in 1993 she had sought a protective order against a boyfriend who damaged her car when she ended the relationship. She said she damaged his car in the same way and they sought protective orders against each other. She said they each agreed to drop the request on the day they were set to go before a judge.

Shelby wrote that in 2000, she was involved in a custody battle with her ex-husband when her ex-husband's wife filed a protective order against her in LeFlore County, claiming she had made harassing phone calls. Shelby wrote that she proved she didn't make the calls and said the judge denied the request.
