Oklahoma Natural Gas could be fined up to $1.5 million because of a gas line explosion in Oklahoma City.

The Oklahoma Corporation Commission's transportation division filed a complaint Friday alleging ONG failed to properly investigate a leak reported the day before the explosion; didn't investigate or document an investigation of at least eight previous leaks in the area; and didn't perform or document performance of surveillance after the leaks. Each count carries a maximum $500,000 fine.

The Jan. 2 explosion destroyed one home and four others were later demolished. One person suffered burns and two people were treated for breathing problems.

ONG said the complaint is being reviewed and the utility will continue cooperating with the commission.

ONG previously blamed the explosion on poor workmanship on a gas main installed by a contractor in 1983.
