The Tulsa Parks Department has earned national accreditation.

According to a news release, the department received the accreditation through the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) for showing excellence in parks operation and service.

CAPRA bases its decision on how well an agency meets its 151 standards for national accreditation. An agency must comply with all 37 fundamental standards and 90 percent of the 114 non-fundamental standards.

Tulsa is among 152 accredited agencies out of over 10,000 park and recreation agencies nationwide, according to the news release.

CAPRA accreditation is a 5-year cycle that includes three phases: development of the agency assessment report, on-site visitation and the Commission’s review and decision.

“This accreditation truly speaks to the hard-working Tulsa Parks employees that go above and beyond every day to provide quality park services to our citizens,” said Tulsa Parks Director Lucy Dolman. “Years of work went into the accreditation, and I know Tulsa Parks is a better system for going through the process.”

The city of Tulsa says Tulsa Parks Department is the only agency in the state of Oklahoma that holds a CAPRA accreditation.
