A lot of students in Tulsa go to school every day without everything they need, and the Assistance League of Tulsa and its Operation School Bell are trying to help.

Every Tuesday through Friday until the end of January the league will help kids from different schools.

Tuesday, it was shopping day for kids from Marshall Elementary.

"We dress approximately 2,400 children in a school year," Barbara Walters said. "They get two complete uniforms. They get a play outfit, which is jeans and a shirt or sweatpants and a shirt."

They also get socks, underwear, a belt and shoes; and in the winter, they get a new jacket and gloves.

The folks at the Assistance League have been doing this for Tulsa's kids since 1977.

It’s a time-consuming process, all this shopping. For those who are finished or are waiting to go in, there are activities.

And every shopper gets a helper.

Walters: "We have a lot of retired teachers here."
Rick: "Because they know the need."
Walters: "Because they know the need, and we're still working with children, which is our love in the first place."

Operation School Bell operates on donations, grants and profits from their Bargains Resale Shop. You can find more information here.
