Storms In SE Oklahoma As Cooler Temps Return

TULSA, Oklahoma -

The front that moved across the area yesterday remains draped across part of northeastern OK this morning and will begin moving southward later this afternoon and tonight.   A few showers and storms will be possible this morning but the better chance for storms will occur this afternoon and tonight across along and east of highway 69 and generally south of the I-40 region.   We’ll need to keep a slight mention for a few storms in the Tulsa metro but the higher chances will remain to the east and southeast.  Locations north and northwest of the metro will not be included in this chance.   A few strong to severe storms will be possible this afternoon and evening as the front moves southeast into southern OK.   Highs today will be similar to yesterday with upper 70s far northern OK, 80 to 82 in the metro, and mid to upper 80s across southeastern and east central OK.

The main upper level wave will eject into the central plains soon and this will give our surface front a shove southeast.   As the front begins moving southeast later this afternoon, stronger winds aloft will reach the southwestern Missouri area by midday and strong to severe storms will become possible along and ahead of the front.   Some storm activity will be likely across east-central and southeastern OK this afternoon and evening.  My window will be from 3pm to 11pm.  A few of the storms may produce hail and damaging winds.   Again, the chance for the metro will be very low.  Most, if not all of the storms will be east or south of the Tulsa metro.

Weather Alerts

Once of the front clears the area later tonight, cooler and dry air will arrive Thursday morning bringing another great taste of fall weather to the region.   Thursday morning lows in the mid-50s will be followed by highs in the upper 60s along with partly sunny sky and northwest winds from 10 to 20 mph.

Fall break is underway Thursday and Friday and this means football games will be Thursday night.   Temperatures will be in the 50s for the games along with north winds and dry air.

Friday morning will be chilly with lows in the lower 40s.   Daytime highs will stay in the upper 60s near 70 along with sunshine and winds shifting from the north to the south at midday but staying relatively light in speed.

The pattern this weekend will be characterized by a mostly zonal and quiet upper air flow.   Temperatures will start in the 40s and 50s for lows and end Saturday in the upper 70s and Sunday into the lower 80s.
