Woman Dies In Ponca City House Fire

<p>A woman has died after her home in Ponca City, Oklahoma, caught fire Wednesday morning. The woman&rsquo;s son-in-law, who is a retired firefighter,&nbsp;was injured while trying to rescue her.</p>

A woman has died after her home in Ponca City, Oklahoma, caught fire Wednesday morning. The woman’s son-in-law, who is a retired firefighter, was injured while trying to rescue her.

According to the Ponca City Police Department, firefighters responded to the fire at a home in the 1700 block of Richway.

One person, later identified as 81-year-old Sue Baker, was inside the home at the time. The Ponca City News reported that Baker was transported to Alliance Health Ponca City, where she was pronounced dead.

Baker’s son-in-law, Tim Dancey, is an retired firefighter. When he learned of the fire, he responded to the home to try to rescue Baker. However, he suffered smoke inhalation injuries and was medi-flighted to Mercy Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU). 

Officials with the hospital confirmed with News 9 on Thursday that Dancey is in good condition and has been moved out of the ICU. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation, the Ponca City News reported.
