Tulsa Woman Bound Over For Trial In Attempted Arson, Child Neglect

A Tulsa woman was bound over for trial Thursday after she waived her preliminary hearing and a district court judge ruled her competent to stand trial, according to online court records. 

Kristan Kirk, 32, was charged in August with attempted arson and child neglect after she tried to burn down her apartment to kill her two children because she said she thought they were cannibals, police said.

A maintenance man called police August 3, 2016, after he found two children alone in a smoke-filled apartment, police said. 

Kirk had placed metal in the microwave and cans on the stove top to try to start a fire, police said. 

Kirk was ruled competent to stand trial in an October 6 hearing after a judge received the competency evaluation determination, court records show.

Her two children - ages six and nine - are currently in state custody, according to court records.

Kirk is scheduled to be arraigned November 7, 2016.
