Sex offenders are the last people you want interacting with your kids, especially on Halloween.

That's why the U.S. Marshals and local law enforcement agencies all over Tulsa County conducted compliance checks over the last week.

Operation Safe Treat lasted more than six days and covered all of Tulsa County. More than 100 registered sex offenders had an unexpected visit from law enforcement.

Halloween is a night full of tricks and treats, and law enforcement likes to make sure Halloween stays fun and safe.

That's why over the last week, U.S. Marshals and police departments scoured Tulsa County, checking on level 2 and level 3 sex offenders – the most serious of the offenders in Oklahoma.

"Just the nature of their crime, and the nature of what they've done in the past if you don't stay on top of the registry and the offenders that are of the higher levels, what’s to keep them from re-offending," said Dustin Ramsey with the U.S. marshals.

Over the past week, the marshals say they found just fewer than ten percent doing something they shouldn't.

Ramsey said, "The majority of the people we found out of compliance were simply just not living at the address that they had reported they were living at."

They made three arrests and have to follow up with about 15 sex offenders.

It's an initiative law enforcement wants to try to do every year.

To keep Halloween innocent for our little ghouls and goblins, the marshals say it’s a good practice to check the online registry, and not just on Halloween.

“Be watchful and aware of who they are," Ramsey said.

As the sun sets on costumed kiddos, parents in the Rolling Oaks neighborhood said they're glad for the extra enforcement.

"It's not something that we normally check but I am glad that the police and the marshals would go out and check that for us," they said.
