We’re tracking the potential for a few showers and storms later tonight and early Thursday morning as a cold front moves across eastern OK.   This boundary will bring cooler temperatures and dry air to the region Thursday through Saturday morning before another system may impact part of the area late Sunday night into early next week.   High temperatures today will be in the upper 70s or lower 80s along with mostly to partly cloudy conditions and breezy conditions.

WARN Interactive Radar

The upper air flow will support a surface boundary moving southward later today with increasing rain and storm chances for some spots.   A mid length trough is located across the central U.S. and will be moving eastward while a closed upper level low will develop quickly and become cut-off from the main flow during the next 24 to 36 hours.   This cut-off will reside across the southwestern portion of the U.S. before ejecting to the northeast by Friday into the weekend and weakening as this occurs.

Showers and storms will become more numerous later this afternoon and early evening across eastern Kansas into northern OK as the front accelerates into the area this evening.   A few of the storms may be strong to near severe but the overall threat of severe weather will remain quite low.  One or two storms may produce some gusty winds or small hail.

Weather Alerts

The front timing would support a few storms nearing the area by 8pm tonight and crossing the metro around 10pm to midnight.  Locations along and east of highway 69-75 and along and south of the I-40 region will have the best chance for storms around 11pm to 4am.   The front should be exiting the southeastern third of the state by pre-dawn Thursday. The clouds Thursday morning will also quickly erode from the northwest to southeast by midday along with gusty northeast winds at 10 to 15 mph.   Temperatures Thursday morning will start in the upper 50s and lower 60s and finish with highs in the upper 60s and lower 70s.

Friday morning the dry air and clear sky will allow temps to drop into the upper 40 for the metro and possibly the mid-40s for some valley locations across eastern OK.  Friday afternoon looks great with sunshine and dry air.   The highs will be in the upper 60s or lower 70s with pleasant and cool conditions likely for Friday night football games across the eastern third of Oklahoma.
