Tulsa firefighters say a man is dead after falling from the cell tower at 27th and Memorial. Emergency crews were called to the area around 1:20 p.m. Wednesday.

Tulsa police say the fall is likely just a tragic accident.

Police have not released the name of the victim but said it was a 44-year-old man.

They say the man was working on the cell phone tower for a few hours when he fell from the very top. Falling from such a high distance, police say the man likely died on impact.

Police spoke to the man's co-worker, who was on the ground and had been hoisting up tools. However, police are still investigating to see what, if any, safety equipment was being used.

Witnesses we spoke to said they heard the man yell ‘oh no’ just before he fell. They said it was tough to watch, but said they can only imagine how the man's co-worker, who saw it all, feels.

Police said the victim had been doing this kind of work for a couple years.

"It's tragic anytime someone dies; to be so sudden, possibly in the course of their day to day work. It's something that's tough for everyone,” Sergeant Clay Ballenger said. “But obviously for the family, it's tough for co-workers and it's tough for emergency responders; it's just one of those issues we have to deal with, but it is tough."

Police said the victim worked for Mann’s Tower Service. We called the manager and he said he wants to hold off on making a comment for now.

Police are still working to notify the victim's family.
