For one day only, the Sand Springs Municipal Court is allowing those with warrants or outstanding court fines to bring in canned goods and nonperishable food items as credit to pay the fines.

The court will allow people to bring items to the court office at 100 East Broadway, Thursday, November 10, 2016, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., according to a news release from the Sand Springs Police Department.

The one-day Food for Fines Program allows people to bring items in to receive $10 credit for each item donated for a maximum of $200, according to Sand Springs police.

The food collected will be given to Sand Springs Community Services to help those in need.

Sand Springs Police reiterated that no participants will be arrested, and if an outstanding balance remains, the participant will be allowed to set up a payment plan.

The Food for Fines Program was developed by the Sand Springs Municipal Court to complement the other efforts being made through the SSPD Policing Plan 2016, which is a constructive effort to foster community policing and to work with citizens in a way to impact their lives in a positive manner, according to to the SSPD.

SSPD said all those with failure to pay warrants, those currently on a payment plan with the court and those with failure to appear warrants for charges that do not require court appearances are all eligible to participate.

Anyone that must appear in court will be given credit for their donation, have their warrant recalled and be given a court date, according to the news release.

Items that will be accepted are canned vegetables (green beans, carrots, peas and corn), soups, canned tuna, macaroni and cheese, peanut butter and ravioli and Spaghetti-Os, SSPD said.
