A surface ridge of high pressure is centered across part of the southern plains this morning including the northern OK area allowing clear sky, light winds, and dry air to cool efficiently with some locations experiencing some patchy frost.  A few typically cold valley locations will see a light freeze this morning.  The Tulsa metro will touch the upper 30s before the ridge moves east and the southwest winds allow for a nice warm-up with highs near 70 today with more sunshine and pleasant weather.

Weather Alerts

A weak front will pass the area Friday but resulting in only a wind shift and a minor temperature reduction.   A weak upper level cut-off low to our southwest will eject into the flow Sunday and may bring a few sprinkles to the area before quickly moving to our east Monday morning.  This system will have very little impact, if any, on our area other than a few clouds.   We’ll experience pleasant weather this weekend with lows in the 40s and highs in the mid to upper 60s along with partly cloudy conditions Saturday night into Sunday.

Next week may get interesting by the middle to end of the week.   Most data continue to support a pattern change that will bring a progressive flow across the southern and central plains with much colder air invading the Midwest and northeastern U.S.   A powerful looking upper level system will near our area Wednesday into Thursday with increasing south winds and a noticeable warming trend with highs in the 70s.   If enough low level moisture can return across the state before the system arrives we’ll see a chance of thunderstorm activity, possibly severe, by Thursday or early Friday morning.  But the last few runs of the data continue to suppress Gulf Moisture to our south and east.  At this point, we would include a slight chance for a few showers or storms across far eastern sections either Thursday night or Friday but the odds would remain low.   This system remains slightly outside of the time domain of the 7 day forecast.

When the system passes (ejects to the northeast) some colder air will filter southward for a few days of chilly conditions, probably next weekend.

Thanks for reading the Thursday morning weather discussion and blog.

Have a super great day!
