Friday's Wendy's Game of the Week is a huge matchup on the field between Union and Broken Arrow.

And for one Redskins’ quarterback by just suiting up, he's already won.

The season started full of promise for Peyton Morrison.

"He's a great leader, outstanding leader on our football team,” said Union head coach Kirk Fridrich. “He's one of our team captains."

The senior came into the year neck-and-neck in a battle for the number one quarterback position at Union. Despite being beaten out by Grady Davenport, he still figured heavily in the Redskins' plans, but then, trouble happened.

"I was called into the athletic director's office, and they told me that I could possibly have hypertrophic cardiomyopathy,” said Morrison.

A heart test had red-flagged Morrison as possibly having an enlarged heart which can be fatal.

His season and his career appeared to be over.

"It was a big blow,” stated Morrison.

Coach Fridrich added, "Emotionally, it's very tough to see a senior that's worked extremely hard and have a situation where they're going to miss game time."

Suddenly, Morrison’s world went from reading defenses to reading EKG’s.

After a month of missed games, missed practices, and hospital visits, specialists, the season wasn't looking good for Morrison.

But then, one Friday, a game day, he was in Houston and got some good news.

"The day that we played Norman North, I was actually in Houston getting some tests run, and then that morning I was told that everything came back clear,” said Morrison.

Turns out Morrison just has what's called "athlete's heart," where his heart is larger and stronger in general. He was good to go.

"We hopped in the car, flew all the way to Norman from Houston, and were able to make it an hour to 45 minutes before game time,” explained Morrison. “I suited up and was out on the field warming up with the guys."

Through the whole ordeal, he never let it beat him.

"It was something that I can build off of, and it was definitely a season for growth," Morrison said.
