Tulsans took to the streets Monday night during a March for Equality. About 100 people held signs and chanted, encouraging love and unity.

The TU students who organized the march say it wasn’t an anti-Trump rally, but they did say their cause is even more important now that he’s been elected.

Joe Hutchinson had a long day of work in Claremore but got to Veterans Park as soon as he could to join the march.

"Yeah, I'm tired. I just got off work at 5:00, drove straight here. But it's more important to lock arms, stand in solidarity with my brothers and sisters," he said.

Meagan Hosmer, the women who organized the march, said it was not an anti-Trump event; instead, it's meant to encourage those who feel targeted or vulnerable.

"I want the minorities to know that they matter. And the marginalized people to have equal rights. And I think that most people do," Hosmer said.

Organizer Audrey Williams said, "I've seen a lot of violence and I've seen a lot of hatred, and I want to change that. I want people to love each other. I want people to understand we are all human, we're all here to unify each other."

It's clear, though, the election's results did influence many of the marchers.

"Love Trumps Hate. Love trumps hate," many of them chanted.

A group of Trump supporters showed up, too, trailing the marchers with signs saying, "Get Over It" and "All Lives Matter."

"I think it's really stupid what's going on,” said Allen Branch. “Donald Trump won it fair and square, we just need to move on."

Two sides, opposing opinions - both are practicing their rights as Americans.

"That's the least I can do as a human being, is come out here and lock arms with people that are different than me. Let them know, 'Hey, I got your back. If you got mine or not, I got your back.’ I feel that's the right thing to do," Hutchinson said.

Several Tulsa police officers parked along the march route for everyone's protection.
