The City of Tulsa has been awarded a federal grant for $176,000 to process DNA samples.

The taxpayer funded grant comes through the Department of Justice.

The Tulsa Police Forensic Lab will use the money to hire an additional person to process DNA samples and also pay for an audit to identify ways to streamline current practices.

Unlike many federal grants, this one does not require a local match.
