Sixteen University of Oklahoma football student-athletes were named to the 2016 Academic All-Big 12 Team, the conference announced Thursday. The Sooners were represented by 11 first-team selections and five second-team honorees.

Oklahoma's 16 selections were fourth most in the league and its 11 first-team honorees tied for fourth most. Redshirt senior receiver Grant Bothun earned first-team honors for the fourth consecutive year for the Sooners, while redshirt freshman quarterback Connor McGinnis and redshirt senior offensive lineman Riley Nolan were two of seven student-athletes to be nominated with a 4.00 grade point average.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher (either cumulative or over the two previous semesters) and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.

First-team members have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second-team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
