OSU Football Nearly Achieves Academic Record

Including All-America candidates James Washington, Vincent Taylor and Zach Sinor, the Oklahoma State football program produced 12 first-team Academic All-Big 12 selections, it was announced today. OSU's 12 first-team honorees and 19 total honorees trailed only Kansas State among all Big 12 schools.

With 12 first-team selections, OSU fell just one shy of the school record of 13 set last season. Additionally, 19 overall selections is the second-most in school history, trailing only the 22 from 2015, meaning that the two best academic years for the Cowboy football have been the last two.

A grade-point average of 3.20 or higher is required for a spot on the first team and a grade-point average of 3.00-3.19 is good for a spot on the second team.

OSU's first-team honorees included Cowboy Back Britton Abbott, who was nominated with a perfect 4.0 grade point average, kicker Matt Ammendola, linebacker Jordan Burton, Cowboy Backs Jordan Frazier and Blake Jarwin, receiver Chris Lacy, center Brad Lundblade, safety Derrick Moncrief, receiver Grant Newell, offensive lineman Victor Salako, Sinor and linebacker Kirk Tucker.

On the second team were Cowboy Back Keenen Brown, linebacker Kevin Henry, offensive linemen Marcus Keyes and Brandon Pertile, Taylor, Washington and offensive lineman Michael Wilson.

Among OSU's group of 2016 Academic All-Big 12 honorees were six receiving the recognition for the second time in their respective careers – Frazier, Jarwin, Lacy, Lundblade, Sinor and Tucker.
