Winterfest opens downtown on Friday, and crews are busy at work.
Some folks were working on light stands and generally putting the finishing touches on the 9th Arvest Winterfest.
We also met Kaitlyn Palmer, an ice monitor at this year’s event.
Rick: "Do you know what that is?"
Palmer: "I do. What I do is skate around and make sure no one gets hurt, and if they do, I help them get off the ice safely."
Palmer said she has a regular job and is going to TCC, studying to eventually become a nurse. But when she was younger she had one of those big skating dreams.
"I did. I always dreamed of going to the Olympics and becoming a professional figure skater," she said.
Before we left, we bumped into Brian Smith, Arvest Winterfest is his project. He said the change in the weather is making for better ice.
"It's freezing pretty quickly, we have great weather now. Glad that cold front came in over the weekend, and we are in good shape," Smith said.
They still have a few last minute things to do, then, they'll be ready to open Friday morning.
Winterfest opens Friday and will be open until mid-January.
