That humming you hear near the BOK Center is the sound of ice being made here at Winterfest.

We found some folks working on some light stands and generally putting the finishing touches on the 9th Arvest Winterfest.

I was looking for someone to talk to, but it was lunchtime so it was pretty quiet. Then I met Kaitlyn Palmer, she was looking for someone to talk to, too, so we talked to each other. She's been offered a job as an Ice Monitor. A what?

I asked her, "Do you know what that is?"

“I do," Palmer said. "What I do is skate around and make sure no one gets hurt and if they do, I help them get off the ice safely."

So now we know. She told me she has a regular job and is going to TCC studying to eventually become a nurse, but when she was younger she had one of those big skating dreams.

"I did, I always dreamed of going to the olympics and becoming a professional figure skater, but....."

Now she's studying to become a nurse. Good choice.

We were about to leave when we bumped into Brian Smith, Arvest Winterfest is his project. He says the change in the weather is making for better ice.

"It's freezing pretty quickly, we have great weather now. Glad that cold front came in over the weekend, and we are in good shape," Brian Smith, Winterfest Manager.

A few last minute things to do, and they'll be ready to open Friday morning.
