New travel restriction for Oklahoma troopers could impact patrolling on state highways.

Starting Thursday, troopers can only travel 100 miles each day as part of a money-saving strategy.

Troop B Tulsa commander, Trooper Jason Holt, said that will reduce troopers' main function to responding to crashes.

"The less proactive enforcement we can give, the more crashes will tend to increase, which means more mileage to go work crashes, which means less proactive enforcement, so it's a cycle, he said."

Holt said if a trooper goes over the mileage in one day that means they'll have to drive less the rest of the week.
