Beginning Thursday, Broken Arrow sanitation crews will take waste to the Tulsa trash-to-energy plant instead of a landfill.

The city says the move will reduce landfill usage by 90-percent.

Broken Arrow says in addition to lower fees, the disposal of solid waste at the Covanta Tulsa Renewable Energy plant  is "environmentally friendly."

The change also means the city will no longer accept some items that maybe you used to put with the trash.

Broken Arrow says things like roofing material, scrap wood from construction, concrete, appliances, mattresses won't be accepted on regular trash pickup.

Residents will need to contact the city's Action Center at 918-258-3587 for a bulky waste pickup and that will cost extra.

More information is available at the City of Broken Arrow's website.
