Mayor-Elect G.T. Bynum plans to reorganize City Hall with eight new divisions immediately after he takes office Monday morning.

G.T. Bynum also plans to abolish the post of City Manager, which was created by current Mayor Dewey Bartlett.

Bynum lays out the new organization in an executive order to be considered in the first meeting of the new City Council immediately following his inauguration.

Two new councilors and the mayor will be sworn into their new offices, while seven councilors will return to their posts.

G.T. Bynum’s plan eliminates two divisions and reorganizes the existing departments into new management groups.

A notable change is that Public Safety will have three divisions: Public Safety Support - for Municipal Courts, Emergency Management and EMSA; the Division of Police Protection; and the Fire Safety and Emergency Response Division.

It is not uncommon for the Mayor to make organizational changes to city departments, but it has not typically been done within the first hour of a new administration.
