President-elect Donald Trump thrust Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt into the national spotlight, by naming Pruitt the new head of the Environmental Protection Agency. The same Scott Pruitt who has gone toe to toe with and sued the EPA a handful of times in recent years, on behalf of Oklahoma’s Oil and Gas Industries.

Long-time News 9 Political Expert Scott Mitchell said Pruitt will probably lead a revolt inside the EPA.

“I’m going to tell you, when you take the term ‘Drain The Swamp,’ you cannot believe the changes in personnel that are about to happen at the EPA,” said Mitchell. “There will be 10,000 applications for jobs going out tomorrow.”

However, the president of the New York-based Natural Resources Defense Council said Pruitt is an awful pick. “Over the past five years, Pruitt has used his position as Oklahoma’s top prosecutor to sue the EPA in a series of attempts to deny Americans the benefits of reducing mercury, arsenic, and other toxins from the air we breathe,”

Mitchell said Pruitt will still need to be approved by a simple majority of the U.S. Senate.

“This is a historical and impactful appointment…It’s about to get real rough real fast,” said Mitchell.
