A dry and cold air mass will remain across northern Oklahoma today with highs today lower to mid-30s along with sunshine and north winds at 10 to 20 mph.  Wind chill values will stay in the teens this morning and into the 20s this afternoon.   Temperatures should be even colder tomorrow morning with some folks in the lower to mid-teens.   We’ll see a minor warm-up this weekend before a series of cold fronts arrive next week with more cold air.

Weather Alerts

The clouds have been slow to clear overnight and this has helped a little with temps a few degrees above the forecast mark for the overnight lows.   But no doubt about it, it’s cold this morning.   The clouds should thin out and move southeast by early this morning (between 7am and 10am) and we’ll see the sunshine along with north winds and cold air.   Keep those big coats handy.

The upper air flow will continue to be favorable for bringing a few cold fronts into the central and southern plains for the next few days.   The operational data does have some timing differences regarding the exact timeline for these fronts, but the overall trend will remain intact for the next several days.   Any precipitation chances currently will remain very low and with little wintry weather impact for most, it not all eastern OK.

Our chilly air mass will stick around through Friday but will quickly erode Saturday morning as the next upper level disturbance begins ejecting across the inter mountain region.   A surface area of low pressure is expected to quickly deepen across southeastern Colorado Saturday with very strong south winds developing during the day from 15 to 25 mph.

Sunday morning south winds will keep the lows in the upper 30s or lower 40s with highs in the mid-50s along with partly to mostly cloudy conditions and a very low chance for a few showers or some drizzle.

WARN Interactive Radar

Late Sunday evening into Monday morning the next cold front will drop down across northern OK and may stall near I-40 for a few hours.   Low level moisture is excited to remain limited but some drizzle or showers may be possible with the frontal passage.   The temps may stay near 30 for the lows and the highs Monday into the upper 40s near 50.

The next strong front will arrive either Tuesday or Wednesday with another surge of cold air but very little in the way of precipitation.   This front could drop us back into colder air with lows in the teens and highs only in the 30s for the middle of next week.

Thanks for reading the Thursday morning weather discussion and blog.

Have a super great day!
