Garage Fire Kills Boy Near Coffeyville, Kansas

Deputies say a boy died in a fire outside a home near Coffeyville, Kansas on Saturday.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office identified the victim as 8-year-old Cody Shull. 

The office said it got the call to the fire at 2:13 p.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2016 to a home in the 200 block of Hill Street in the community of Dearing, which is just northwest of Coffeyville.

Deputies and firefighters from the Dearing Rural Fire Department found the detached garage and dog house on fire. While battling the flames, the emergency crews found the boy's body near the dog house on the west side of the garage. They called the Montgomery County Coroner who pronounced Shull deceased at the scene. 

The sheriff's office said the boy sustained fatal injuries due to the fire. It said no foul play is suspected. 

The circumstances of the fire are still under investigation, the sheriff's office said.
