Several Bluejacket Public School students were injured when a bus crashed into a tree in Craig County. A 12-year-old girl was taken to a Tulsa hospital with a leg injury. Most of the other injuries were minor bumps and bruises.

It happened near the intersection of 190 Road and 4390 Road, according to Morris Bluejacket, Craig County Emergency Manager.

The driver told Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers he coughed then blacked out, Bluejacket told News On 6. The bus went off the road and into the ditch then slammed into a tree.

There were 16 kids on the bus, from elementary to high school Bluejacket said several other students are being taken to the hospital as a precaution. The superintendent of schools is headed to the hospital to check on the kids.

Most were back in class by noon.

The bus driver was conscious and talking but will also be checked out at the hospital. The principal said the driver is in his first year of driving buses. He passed a physical at the beginning of the year with a clean bill of health, the district said.

The heavily damaged bus will be off the road for a while.
