Easter Storms Rumble Through Eastern Oklahoma

Posted: Updated:
TULSA, Oklahoma -

Keep the umbrellas handy! Easter storms will continue to rumble across parts of eastern Oklahoma through the morning hours, and another round of storms is expected by the end of our Easter Sunday.

The complex of storms that has already impacted parts of northeastern Oklahoma early this morning will continue to slowly weaken as it moves to the southeast through the late morning hours. Lightning, small hail, and areas of locally heavy rain will remain possible, hampering many outdoor Easter plans.

WARN Interactive Radar

This first complex of storms will be mainly dissipating by lunchtime, but additional scattered storms will be possible through the morning and early afternoon just about anywhere across eastern Oklahoma. Where we do end up seeing a lull in the rain, it will turn warmer and somewhat muggy with afternoon temperatures looking to recover back into the 70s across eastern Oklahoma.

The atmosphere will then try to “re-load” for another potential round of storms by the late in the day as a frontal boundary remains stalled out near the Oklahoma-Kansas state line. Additional scattered storms are expected to develop from late afternoon into the evening, particularly along and northwest of I-44, and a few of these storms could become severe with large hail and damaging winds possible.

Storms will likely become more widespread across northeastern Oklahoma through the nighttime hours and into early Monday morning, eventually spreading into southeastern Oklahoma as well Monday morning. This round of storms should shift south of most of the viewing area by lunchtime Monday, with a bit quieter conditions expected for Monday afternoon.

We’re looking for another afternoon of somewhat muggy air on Monday with highs again in the upper 70s.

Warmer and mainly dry weather looks to return by the middle of the week, with highs surging back up into the 80s by Tuesday and Wednesday. More unsettled weather is on the horizon though, with storm chances again increasing by next Thursday and into next Friday.
