National Search Underway For Ohio Facebook Shooter

Posted: Updated:
CLEVELAND, Ohio -

An innocent elderly man was gunned down in Cleveland, Ohio, Sunday and the shooter recorded it and posted it on Facebook.

The suspect, Steve Stephens, is still on the run, but there's another video highlighting Stephen's mental state that's also getting a lot of attention.

The videos aren't hard to find. One, in particular, has thousands of views already.

In it, Stephens is airing out what pushed him to do what he did.

In a five-minute video, Steve Stephens --the suspect in a random shooting that left 75-year-old Robert Godwin Sr. dead - attempts to explain what led him to kill.

He never mentions Godwin, the innocent father, and grandfather, by name.

Only that there would be more victims.

The video goes on to point out how his attempts to talk about his problems went ignored.

That brings up questions about his mental state.

"We're not here to diagnose mental illness but it certainly opens the conversation for us," said Ellen Harris, who is part of TAMI, the Tulsa Alliance on Mental Illness

The organization focuses on educating the public on mental illness.

"Oftentimes, when we see some tragedy in the news like this or any of the others we find out family members have tried to get help or the person has asked for help or turned away or disregarded," Harris said.

As police continue to search for the suspect, she hopes the stigma surrounding mental illness ends, and she hopes Godwin's family finds some peace.

"These are preventable tragedies theses suicides and homicides of this nature are preventable," Harris said.

The Tulsa alliance on mental illness offers free educational resources to the public.

As for the victim in all of this, Godwin's family has set up a GoFundMe account.
