Vandalism To BA Blue Star Mothers Ultimately Hurts Troops
BROKEN ARROW, Oklahoma - Windows were shot are out at the Broken Arrow Blue Star Mothers office; the vandalism left volunteers mad and upset because the repair costs will ultimately hurt our troops.
It was a startling start to the day as workers at neighboring businesses called the Blue Star Mothers after seeing their door had been shot out.
Chapter 5 president Janet Viel arrived to see the front door to the Blue Star Mothers Broken Arrow Chapter 5 office, shattered.
"There was glass all over the place in the parking lot, spread out,” she said.
Neighboring businesses were also vandalized, leaving
Leaving Janet and her first vice president, Terry Truax, upset.
"I just can't believe somebody would do something as stupid as this," Truax said.
Viel, who has two sons that served our country, said doing this work becomes a life mission.
"You have to support your kids, and after a while, every one of the troops becomes your kids," she said.
At 7:30 Monday morning, Janet got her first call about the to the door; when she arrived, police were immediately called.
"They came in and yelled 'Broken Arrow Police is anybody here,'" Viel said.
Police cleared the office, took a report, and believe a BB gun did the damage. Now, Viel is left in disbelief, wondering why someone would target them.
“Nobody has anything against us, we haven't done anything," she said.
Viel, however, is thankful nothing was stolen, like special care packages being shipped to Ukraine to the Oklahoma National Guard Troops stationed there.
"They did not hurt us, they did not hurt the Blue Star Mothers,” Viel said, “they hurt our troops, and that's what hurts more."
Truax said, "It takes that money away from us, and now we can't spend it on them."
The total damage to the door is about $200.
By coincidence, the Blue Star Mothers already had a fundraiser scheduled for Tuesday at Raising Cane's in Owasso; 15 percent of your purchase goes to the Blue Star Mom's efforts if you mention the group by name.
