Joe Mixon, Amelia Molitor Reach Settlement On Lawsuit

Posted: Updated:
NORMAN, Oklahoma -

Former OU running back Joe Mixon and Amelia Molitor have reached a settlement on a lawsuit stemming from an altercation between the two in 2014.

According to surveillance video that was only released to the public in December 2016, Mixon punched Molitor with a closed fist after she slapped him during a heated exchange. Mixon was suspended from the football team for one year and was charged with a misdemeanor count of an act resulting in gross injury.

Mixon accepted a plea deal and entered an Alford Plea in October 2014. As part of the deal, he accepted probation in lieu of a possible trial and jail time, but maintained his innocence.

Friday, the two released a joint statement saying they have settled the civil suit out of court.

“I am happy we were able to bring the lawsuit to an end,” Molitor said in the statement.

“I was able to apologize to her one-to-one. The way I reacted that night, that’s not me. That’s not the way I was raised,” Mixon said.

Molitor and Mixon said they are glad to be moving forward from the altercation.

Molitor said she would continue to speak out and support others, but said, “I’m finished talking about what happened that night with Joe. It’s time to move on from that. I with Joe the best of luck in his future.

Mixon said he will continue to work to become a better person and will do what he can to help others learn from his mistake.

“I love working with kids, and I’m looking for more chances to do that kind of work. I want to lead a life that inspires them, and I hope I can lead by example from today forward.”

The details of the settlement are confidential, the statement says.
