Bixby city leaders approved a plan to help fix drainage issues that are causing flooding problems. Last year, voters approved more than $900,000 in bond money for drainage improvements in Pecan Park, John's Park and Southtown.

The Bixby City Council has approved rezoning of the area southeast of 161st and Memorial from agriculture to commercial shopping and residential.

With that approval comes a promise from developers to use nearly $2 million for improving drainage and flood control. Some of that - $975,000 - is from a bond issue, and the rest will be paid for by the developer.

The plan will create a system of storm drains and ponds to catch and divert water.

"This is a great opportunity for us to have a really great extended scope of work for the three areas we have identified," said Bixby City Manager Jared Cottle.

They expect residents to see changes by the end of the year.
