Two Green Country Families Thankful To Only Suffer Minor Storm Damage

Posted: Updated:

A family in Skiatook and a family east of Oologah are thankful the storm damage to their homes wasn’t worse.

Driving around looking at the aftermath of severe storms, News On 6 crews saw a lot of close calls.

And one of these was at Bob and Corinne Katon's house. A transformer was inches away from the back of their house in the Tacora Hills neighborhood.

"We're blessed. We're blessed that God protected us from any major damages,” said Bob. “No power but that's not a big deal. We're both healthy; we're both alive. The house is still standing."

In Skiatook Saturday morning, a family’s home sparked fire in the attic due to a wind gust the Fire Marshall believes. It knocked a tree into the power line and the power line damaged the weather head. And those kinds of frayed wires just sent a surge or unregulated power through the attic.

The fire singed some insulation, causing smoke, but News On 6 was told the house was not structurally damaged.
