TULSA, Oklahoma -

The heavy rains have finally exited Green Country, but we’re left with chilly and increasingly windy conditions for our Sunday as we begin drying out.

The powerful storm system responsible for our significant flooding rains will continue to pull off to the northeast over the next 24 hours. But some moisture continues to linger on the back side of this system, leaving us with lingering light showers and sprinkles today. Rivers will also continue to swell with some pushing into major flood stage, so please be very aware if you live by or are traveling by any area rivers as many roads in those areas will continue to be flooded.

Cloud cover will also hang tough throughout our Sunday, with perhaps a peek or two of sun if we’re lucky. Those lingering clouds will keep our temperatures pretty much steady and quite chilly, with only lower to mid 50s expected today.

It will also become increasingly windy for our Sunday. Southwest winds will crank up to 25 to 35 miles per hour with a few gusts as high as 40 miles per hour by this afternoon, so hang on to your hats and keep the big jacket handy!

Cloud cover will start to thin out later tonight as a bit calmer weather arrives. Lows should dip back into the lower 40s to kick off the work week with a chilly westerly breeze by tomorrow morning. Monday looks like a much more pleasant day with sunshine returning and highs closer to 70 degrees, a welcome reward after the flooding we’ve dealt with recently!

Yet another storm system is on the way by late Tuesday into Wednesday, which will bring us another chance of showers and storms – not exactly what we need right now! Fortunately, this will be a quicker-moving storm system and severe weather is not expected, but we could see another 1 to 2 inches of rain in some locations by Wednesday which could exacerbate flooding problems in a few areas.

We are seeing signs of a more significant break from the rains by the end of next week and beyond as we start the month of May!
