A 32-year-old man is dead after an officer-involved shooting near Tom, Oklahoma in McCurtain County. The shooting took place Sunday, April 30, according to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.

Agents said Devin Hawkins fired at least one time at the McCurtain County Sheriff before he was shot and killed by deputies.

The Sheriff's Office first got a call about Hawkins from a resident who said Hawkins was walking in the area of Jasper Hollow Road with a gun, threatening to kill people. Deputies went to the scene and saw a truck leaving a home on Jasper Hollow and pulled the vehicle over.

The driver said he was giving Hawkins a ride but didn't know him, according to a news release. When police questioned Hawkins, a passenger in the truck, he showed them a gun in his waistband then held it to his own head, agents said.

Deputies told Hawkins to put the gun down and get out of the truck, but he refused, the release states. Instead, he pointed the gun at the sheriff, firing at least one time.

The deputies then shot and killed him. No one else was injured.

OSBI was called in to provide the district attorney with a report on the incident. The release states Hawkins was a resident of Foreman, Arkansas.
