Thanks to a massive drug bust, 13 people are indicted and a big check with big benefits is coming to Tulsa County.

Nearly $700,000 seized from an international K2 drug ring now belongs to the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office.

It seized the money during Operation Mega Buzz - a joint investigation that included five states, eight cities, Homeland Security and federal agents.

"Budgets and things like that are tough for everybody, so when you can utilize money that has been gotten from, that has been seized from criminals, that just makes it all that better," Sheriff Vic Regalado said.

The money is back in the hands of law enforcement after a synthetic marijuana drug ring was busted in five states. The lead task force officer was a Tulsa County deputy.

"It's those collaborative efforts that allow us to really conduct operations of this magnitude, and that's what it's really all about, is being able to shut down criminal enterprises and individuals that would profit from illegal activities here in our county," Regalado said.

Synthetic marijuana - also known as K2 - has been a big problem across the country. including in Tulsa.

Akhlaq Nazir - known as one of the largest K2 distributors in Tulsa - was sentenced to 25 years in prison back in January. Investigators said they found 3,000 packets of K2 during his arrest.

It's big busts like these that law enforcement officers say make our kids safer.

Regalado said, "That is just illegal drugs that won't hit the streets here."

The sheriff said they'll use the money to put towards equipment, training, education and any other needs they have.
