Downtown Bartlesville Steam Train Display To Expand

Posted: Updated: photo photo

A steam locomotive and train on display at the former Bartlesville railroad depot will be getting longer soon with the addition of a cattle car.

The car, which dates back to the mid-1920s is now located outside of the Osage County Historical Society museum in Pawhuska.

According to, the city council accepted a 25-year lease Monday for the cattle car from the museum, making the expansion possible.

Friends of the #940, which is responsible of the display, say the 40-foot-long car was first built as a box car, then converted to carry cattle at around 1947.

The current display outside the depot includes a Santa Fe steam locomotive #940, a coal tender, a Phillips 66 tank car and a Santa Fe caboose.
