Eastern Oklahoma Will Be Sunny & Dry This Weekend

Posted: Updated:
TULSA, Oklahoma -

We're at the very beginning stages of some great weather that will last this weekend into the first part of next week.   Basically, we're warming up and drying out with highs moving into the lower to mid-70s today and into the lower 80s Sunday into early next week.   Our next system may not arrive until Wednesday or late next week with increasing thunderstorm chances for the eastern third of the state.

The low is now too far east to impact the area today with clouds.   We'll see mostly sunny conditions with north winds around 10 to 15 mph along with highs in the lower to mid-70s.   Most of the area will stay around 72 to 76.

A mid-level ridge of high pressure is developing to our west and will nudge eastward into the southern plains this weekend through early next week.   A trough will be positioned across the northeastern U.S. and across the far southwestern third of the nation.   This pattern which resembles the Greek letter Omega will block the movement of the southwestern system until the ridge breaks down and sides east.   GFS data begins this process Tuesday with storms nearing the area Wednesday and Thursday, while the more reliable EURO suggests this will not occur until Thursday or Friday.   We're in the holding pattern until this ridge breaks down.   A weak vort will move southward across the central plains into Oklahoma Saturday but will only produce a few high clouds.

Enjoy the great stretch of weather this weekend.

Have a super great day.
