Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation Donates To Area First Responders

OWASSO, Oklahoma -

Some Green Country first responders have $42,000 worth of life-saving equipment, thanks to money raised at Firehouse Subs.

BAPD is the recipient of a grant through the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, FSPSF announced Tuesday at a media event held at the Firehouse Subs Owasso location.

“It feels great to be able to give back to those who put their lives on the line every day to protect us,” said Meghan Vargas, Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation senior manager of foundation development. “People don’t realize first responders oftentimes lack funds needed to purchase necessary equipment. We’re thankful for generous contributions from Firehouse Subs guests that allow us to provide this assistance through the Foundation.”

The Broken Arrow Police Department received 20 automated external defibrillators and 120 vented chest seals valued at $23,838.

The chest seals will provide first aid for victims suffering from bleeding chest wounds, including trauma from collisions and stab wounds.

The department said this will help save lives when seconds count.

"Collisions, cardiac arrests anything like that. A lot of times, police are first on the scene because we're out and about, we're mobile," said Ofc James Koch, Broken Arrow Police Department.

The Black Dog Fire Department received $18,653 worth of extrication equipment, replacing outdated tools and improving the department’s rescue capabilities for victims in motor vehicle accidents.

“The Firefighters of Black Dog Fire Department are excited to receive the grant from Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation,” said Mike Palmer, Black Dog Fire Department assistant chief. "The grant has been used to purchase a new set of Jaws of Life, which means quicker and safer extraction time for victims, as well as safety for the firefighters operating them.”
