Strong Winds Pushing Storm System Into Eastern Oklahoma
TULSA, Oklahoma - Strong winds today as we are getting ready for a storm system to push rain and storms into eastern Oklahoma tonight. Storms will be developing across far western Oklahoma during the afternoon and evening hours. Those storms will become severe, and most likely be supercells capable of producing very large hail and strong tornadoes.
Those storms will move east and form into clusters. They should weaken as they move east, but there's the possibility that a few could still be severe when they move into eastern Oklahoma late tonight.
The mid-level wind flow looks to split the clusters, with a batch to the north and a batch possibly to the south of the metro. We will most likely be dealing with storms capable of strong gusty winds, some small hail, and quite a bit of lightning and thunder.
Mother Nature will probably be waking us up before our alarm clocks tomorrow morning!
Rain and storms will move into western Arkansas by late morning. Be prepared for the possibility of wet roads for your morning commute. Conditions will improve throughout the day tomorrow, the sun should come out and temperatures will warm up. Highs Wednesday will be in the mid to upper 80s with a strong south wind.
We will be in between systems until Thursday. Moisture will be increasing, and you'll notice a very muggy feeling Thursday afternoon. Heat index values could be in the low to mid 90s.
Storms should start developing with our next storm system by late Thursday afternoon into Thursday evening. Our next system is a slow moving system and will affect us for two to three days.
The severe weather potential is highest late Thursday and again Friday afternoon. Friday night into Saturday, we could start to see very heavy rainfall and still some strong storms as the system slows down. Rainfall amounts 2 to 3 inches or more will be possible so flooding concerns return.
This system should exit by late Saturday but it might not be until Sunday morning that lingering showers move out of eastern Oklahoma.
