Severe weather put a damper on the weekend as two Tulsa festivals had to close early Friday.

The storms caused Mayfest and the Blue Dome Arts Festival to shut down, but vendors at both sites said they’re ready for the weekend.

Jo Armstrong isn’t letting severe storms put a damper on the Blue Dome Arts Festival.

"These people are our neighbors and they are so positive," she said. "They just say, this is what happens, and let’s all pull together."

Fast winds and heavy rain blew through the Tulsa area starting Thursday, which slowed things down at the festivals.

The high winds also knocked over a large tent at the Blue Dome Arts Festival.

"We had some damage too, it took down a major tent that's rated to withstand 85 mile per hour wind, and it absolutely destroyed it," Armstrong said.

Artist Glenna Paul sells melted glass; she said you always have to be careful when weather blows through.

"It was really bad last night, really windy. We had a lot of damage out here last night - just some tents and everything got blown over - and so I just made sure that everything was nice and protected," Paul said.

At Mayfest, vendor Becky Feeley said Thursday was intense. She's thankful her items are insured and that she was able to store her products and keep them safe during the storm.

"We watched tents, I mean that were loaded down with double barrels of water, that were moving, so it was hairy," Feeley said.

With more storms moving through Green County Friday, Mayfest and the Blue Dome Arts Festival shut their doors early, but are keeping a positive outlook for the weekend.

Both festivals will reopen 11 a.m. Saturday morning.
