Improving Weather Soon In Eastern Oklahoma

Posted: Updated:
Rain zone through 1 p.m. Rain zone through 1 p.m.

Good morning. The storm system responsible for the active weather the past two days is finally exiting the state early this morning.  We’re still seeing a few showers and storms as of this posting hour (430 a.m.) across far southeastern OK but this activity should move eastward quickly this morning.   I can’t totally rule out a stray shower this morning near or east of highway 69 but the odds are low.  I’ll not include a pop for today after the 7am hour.

The clouds will remain optically thick this morning and this should keep our temps in the upper 50s and lower 60s for the next few hours. The actual surface front is only now clearing the area so winds will shift from the south to the northwest during the next few hours around 10 to 15 mph.

WARN Interactive Radar

The heavy rainfall yesterday and overnight has resulted in some flash flood warnings and river-streams-creek warnings.   Remain aware of those areas that are prone to flood and avoid them until the water recedes.   Most of the flash flood warnings will expire before most folks read this post.  But the river flood warnings and advisories will continue today and tomorrow for some locations.

About noon today the clouds will start decreasing from the northeast to southeast as dry mid-level air begins to move across the area.   This means we should start to have more sunshine for the 2nd half of the day with highs trying to rebound near 70 for most locations.   The dry air will allow temps to drop off quickly tonight with Sunday morning lows in the upper 40s.   Daytime highs tomorrow should be in the mid-70s along with light northeast winds for most of the day and mostly sunny sky for northern OK with a few clouds across the far south and far northwestern part of the area.

The next fast moving system will arrive Monday into Tuesday with a chance for a few showers and storms.  The data seems to be suggesting a higher pop to our southwest and I have adjusted the numbers slightly to account for this prompting.  This means we have a slight chance of a shower or storm Monday with a decent shot of shower and storms late Monday night into pre-dawn Tuesday before a surface front clears the region early Tuesday morning.   The result will be cooler air over the state with Tuesday afternoon highs in the upper 60s and lower 70s.

Wednesday also will remain seasonably cool with morning lows in the upper 40s or lower 50s along with highs near the upper 70s.  The pattern changes again late next week with a robust warm-jump back into the 80s along with a slight chance for a few storms for the Memorial Day extended holiday.

Thanks for reading the Saturday morning edition of the weather discussion and blog.

Have a super great day!
