A 26-year-old Tulsa man is in jail on a first-degree murder complaint for the Saturday shooting death of another Tulsa man at an apartment complex.

Chase Franklin Stewart was arrested Saturday evening on the murder complaint as well as outstanding warrants for aggravated speeding, no proof of insurance and no driver's license.

The victim has been identified as 19-year-old Daquan Hura, TPD Homicide Sgt. Dave Walker said in a news release.

Police received the call about a shooting call at Mohawk Manor at about 6 p.m. on May 20 and arrived to find Hura down on the living room of the apartment, according to the arrest and booking report.

Walker said it is an ongoing investigation but it appears that neither Hura nor Stewart lived at the apartment.

Officers said the victim had a gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced dead a the scene. Witnesses told officers the shooter had run and was in a field east of the apartment complex, the report shows.

TPD then spotted Stewart running through the field and he was arrested a short time later.

When interviewed, Stewart told police where he'd hidden the gun he used to shoot the victim, the report states.

A witness was also interviewed by police and she told officers she was across the parking lot from where the shooting took place and she heard a single gunshot blast. She said she walked to the apartment and observed a foot sticking out from the front door so she left to get her cell phone to call 911, the report shows.

When the witness returned to the apartment, she said she saw the victim on the living room floor and when she entered the apartment she saw Stewart sitting on a stairway to the right of the front door holding a shotgun before he said to her, "get out of here," the report states.

The witness said she ran and waited for TPD officers to arrive.

Witness accounts lead TPD to believe an argument between the two men led to the shooting.

Stewart told police he shot the victim in self-defense because he thought the victim was armed, the report states.

He said he shot him because he feared for his life.
