2 Injured After Motorcycle Lays Down To Avoid Crashing Into Van

Posted: Updated:
TULSA, Oklahoma -

Two people were injured when a motorcycle collided with a van that was trying to avoid hitting a dog in the road Sunday afternoon on south Highway 169.

Police were called about a small brown dog in the road at 1100 S. Highway 169 shortly before 1 p.m., police said.

The driver of a motorcycle said he and his passenger were going south at 1200 S. Highway 169 when they noticed a green Dodge van hit its brakes, police said.

The driver said he was taught in motorcycle training to lay the bike down on its side to avoid a more serious collision, TPD said.

But, the driver of the van said he was attempting to avoid hitting the dog and its owner when he slowed down almost to a complete stop when he realized the motorcycle behind him was going to hit his van.

Police said the motorcycle driver and passenger both received moderate injuries to their right arms and the passenger was taken to a local hospital for a possible broken bone.

Officers said the driver also had a possible broken arm but refused treatment.

Police ticketed the motorcycle driver for failure to stop at an assured distance.

The dog owner left the scene with the after the collision, police said.
