Former James Bond Actor Sir Roger Moore Dies

Sir Roger Moore, best known for his portrayal of James Bond, is dead at 89. Moore was the third actor to play Bond and starred in seven feature films as that character.

According to his autobiography, Moore was approached to play Bond after Sean Connery's last appearance in Diamond's Are Forever

Actor George Lazenby was cast in between Connery's last two films, making Moore the third actor to ask for a martini "shaken, not stirred." He starred in Live and Let Die, The Man with the Golden Gun, The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker, For Your Eyes Only, Octopussy and A View to a Kill.

He also played Simon Templar in The Saint, a series that ran from 1962 to 1969.

Moore died in Switzerland after a short battle with cancer, according to a release from his children.

He was also a UNICEF ambassador and author, the release states.
