Police say a 30-year-old man accidentally shot himself in the buttocks late Wednesday inside a Tulsa apartment, then lied to officers about what happened.

Officers were called to the Ridgeview Apartments in the 700 block of South 101st East Avenue just after 11 p.m. in reference to a shooting.

The man told police he was shot while walking in the parking lot of the apartment complex, but officers say a search of the victim's apartment turned up a handgun which appeared to have been recently fired.

Police says evidence at the scene indicates the victim most likely shot himself as he tried to tuck the gun into his waist band.

EMSA took the victim to the hospital with what police said what appeared to be a non-life threatening wound.
