SAPULPA, Oklahoma -

Sapulpa Police released dramatic video of the pursuit of a stolen ONG truck that ended in an innocent man's death Wednesday morning, May 24, 2017.

Jerry Newman was charged Thursday with first-degree murder, larceny of an automobile, leaving the scene of a fatality collision, driving under suspension and false impersonation of another.

Police tell us an officer had the camera mounted on the dash of his patrol unit.

The chase started in Sapulpa where police say Jerry Newman stole the truck from a repair shop at 6015 South 49th West Avenue and headed to Tulsa. He drove east on 61st Street South, traveling on city streets and Interstate 44.

Sapulpa officers followed Newman then were assisted by the Tulsa Police Department and Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers. Video shows him speeding through red lights and construction zones without slowing down.

For a short moment, police think they have him when he crosses over a median and loses control.

"He's spinning out at Sheridan and Apache," an officer said. Then the 24-year-old Newman heads to the airport.

"Advise the airport he's going through two active runways," an officer can be heard saying in the dash cam video. For about half an hour, police said Newman led them across runways, taxi ways, grass and several fences.

He comes close to a commercial jet about to take off, court records show.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Jared Sharp performed a tactical maneuver to keep Newman from hitting the jet, authorities said.

"The attempt to end the pursuit was not successful due to the size and mass of the ONG truck," an affidavit of probable cause states.

After speeding through the airport, Newman drives back out through a fence. Newman eventually got onto Highway 75, going southbound in the northbound lanes. State troopers and police ended the chase at that point, and by the time they could get turned around to catch back up with him, they said the truck hit another car.

Newman crashed head-on into a Ford Focus, killing 23-year-old William Bruckman, who leaves behind a wife and three kids. Newman survived and ran away.

After an hours-long manhunt, Newman was caught at a home near 31st and Garnett. He told investigators he didn't remember stealing the truck but took it "because he needed to get home," the affidavit states. He also told investigators "the pills must have made me careless."

Jerry Newman has been arrested several times in Tulsa County for possession of a stolen vehicle. He was recently released from prison in February after being in for just under two years.

The victim, William Bruckman, leaves behind a wife and three children. He's remembered as a good man who loved his family.

Bruckman's family created a GoFundMe page to help support his wife and children. So far, nearly $10,000 has been raised.
