Isolated Storms Possible Across Northeast Oklahoma

Posted: Updated:
TULSA, Oklahoma -

The upper air flow will eventually bring a southern stream system near the state Thursday into Friday before exiting the area sometime Saturday.   It's this period that will feature the highest chances for showers and storms.   The threat of severe weather should remain limited but pockets of moderate to heavy rainfall along with a few strong to near severe storms will be possible.   We may see a few isolated showers or storms today, including one or two this morning across southeastern Kansas and northeastern Oklahoma but the odds will also remain rather low.   Highs today may reach the upper 80s to near 90 along with south winds around 10 to 15 mph.

WARN Interactive Radar

We had a broad range of temps yesterday due to the morning to midday disturbance that brought some thundershower activity across far northern Oklahoma and southeastern Kansas.   Temps are mild this morning with most locations in the lower to mid-60s.   Highs this afternoon will stay in the mid to upper 80s near 90 with a sun-cloud mix.   A weak disturbance located across southwestern Kansas will float across far northern Oklahoma later today with a chance for a few storms.   Additionally, storms are more likely to develop across south central Kansas and attempt to move southeast later this afternoon or tonight.   Our odds will remain rather low and mostly confined to the far northern sections of the state.

Weather Alerts

The pattern will bring the increasing rain and storm chances into the area Thursday night with the southern sections having the better chance for showers and storms.   The disturbance will rotate northward slowly into Saturday before a surface front will move southward by Saturday night or pre-dawn Sunday taking the rain and thunderstorm chances out of the area.   The pattern is expected to change again early next week with a typical northwest flow pattern setting up that will bring the mention of late night to early morning storm complexes across the area.
