TULSA, Oklahoma -

Tulsa’s Young Professions, or TYPros, is making strides to build up business north of the IDL.

The group’s annual Street Cred events create a temporary design of how unused areas could grow.

Every year the group picks a different spot around town to highlight - this year it's the area north of the Brady Arts District.

There's always so much growth happening in the Brady District, but less than a quarter mile away - at Fairview and Easton - there's bare land.

TYPros wants to change that by bringing attention to the area through its street community redevelopment initiative.

The idea is, for one day, set up a temporary business district where people can get a feel for the type of business that could fill the empty space.

Organizers said it's essentially “the other side of the tracks" in comparison to the Brady District.

They also said the highway isn't just a physical barrier, but often a racial and socioeconomic barrier, so instead of neglecting that area, they want to build it up.

The people who attended the event Sunday heard live music, sampled food trucks, but, most importantly, bought from local vendors.

One business there, Nuni Products, is owned by a 17-year-old and 15-year-old.

"We want to help build up those communities. We want to spread our message to anybody who wants to listen. That's really our goal. We’d like to encourage other youth to start their own businesses," they said.

One of the primary goals for TYPros is to build business, but also encourage young entrepreneurs to open shop and stay in Tulsa.
